Hemp hurd and hemp shives
Hemp hurd, also called hemp shives, is the woody inner part of the hemp stem. It is distinct from the longer fibres on the outside of the stem. Choosing the right constituent matters when specifying a natural building mix.

Choosing material for a building mix
Hemp shives are used with suitable mineral binders in hemp-based building systems. Particle grade, binder, mix design and installation all influence the finished assembly. Raw hurd alone does not have the same tested performance as a completed hempcrete sample.
